Munich (March 2, 2026) – January 10 marked the 10th anniversary of David Bowie's death. His influence on music, art, and pop culture remains unbroken. Bowie was more than a music icon – he was a visionary, a pioneer who crossed boundaries between sound, fashion, art, and identity. The exhibition "A Day With David Bowie" at Pineapple Park (Arnulfstraße 195, 80634 Munich) sheds light on this extraordinary legacy from a different perspective and invites visitors to rediscover the man behind the legend.
Exhibition extended until April 12
Due to continued interest, the exhibition will be extended until April 12, 2026, at Pineapple Park Munich (Alte Paketposthalle). Among other things, it will feature the impressive black-and-white photo series by Austrian photographer Christine de Grancy. The exhibition is based on previously unpublished photographs taken in 1994 at the Art Brut Center Gugging—on a day when de Grancy accompanied David Bowie beyond the stage, beyond the myth.
"A Day with David Bowie" premiered in April 2025 at the Santa Monica Arts Museum in Los Angeles, where it was extended until August due to popular demand. Munich is now the first stop in Germany.
The photographs do not show the world-famous star, but rather the ordinary David Robert Jones: as an observer, listener, and sensitive person in dialogue with extraordinary art and its creators. The result is a quiet, intense portrait of an artist whose openness and curiosity make him unique to this day. The visit to Gugging later inspired Bowie to create his album "Outside" (1995).
Christine de Grancy
Photographer Christine de Grancy (1942–2025) is one of the most important representatives of humanistic photography. Her work is characterized by a respectful, calm view of people and their living environments. Whether portraits at the Burgtheater, long-term documentaries of Iranian nomads, or photographs from Afghanistan—her images speak of dignity, vulnerability, and the beauty of authenticity. While preparing for the exhibition in Los Angeles, Christine de Grancy passed away in Vienna on March 20, 2025. "A Day With David Bowie" is thus also a moving legacy of her own artistic work.
